Structural integration

What is Structural Integration?

Structural Integration is a bodywork method that aims to restore balance to the body in the gravitational field through manipulation of the connective tissue and movement reeducation, taking into account individual postural patterns. It was developed in the United States by Dr. Ida Rolf, who discovered the significant role of the fascial system in body posture stabilization and realized that its plasticity supports independent and joyful functioning. The therapy consists of 10 sessions.

How are the sessions divided?

The first 3 sessions focus on releasing superficial structures of the body. The following 4 sessions are dedicated to working on the core, which refers to the deep structures of the body that serve as the central stabilizing axis. The final 3 sessions aim to integrate and connect the functions of both superficial and deep layers, as well as solidify new patterns of movement and posture.

Each individual possesses a unique map of tension patterns that characterize their posture and form throughout life. These patterns carry an individual's personal history and are the result of various factors:
- Imitating others, especially parents and other "authorities"
- Past injuries or surgeries
- Lifestyle, work, and repetitive activities
- Life attitudes and emotions experienced and currently experienced

These tensions shape the structure and function of our bodies and can lead to structural and functional disorders.

What is the goal of Structural Integration?

Placing a child on a potty too early or giving commands like "straighten up," "don't slouch," or "suck in your stomach" deeply imprint themselves in the body and mind, causing the formation of tension patterns in the fascia, muscles, and even influencing bone structure. These patterns operate outside of conscious control.

Structural Integration aims to release these blockages from the connective tissue and reeducate the body in more efficient and energy-conserving patterns of posture and movement.
Structural Integration offers many benefits. The therapy helps with:

▪ Releasing chronic muscle tension and alleviating chronic body pain
▪ Improving and deepening the breath pattern
▪ Eliminating stiffness and discomfort from the body
▪Increasing the range of motion of the body, spine, joints, and limbs
▪ Straightening and balancing the body's posture
▪ Reducing excessive stress, tension, and physical and mental fatigue
▪ Assisting in post-injury and post-operative rehabilitation
▪ Increasing life energy
▪ Enhancing proprioception and interoception
▪ Facilitating lasting reorganization of body posture and correcting postural imbalances.
▪ Achieving greater grace of body movement
▪ Increasing self-acceptance
▪ Improving self-awareness
▪ Catalyzing regenerative processes in the body
▪ Enhancing well-being and overall state of being
▪ Serving as an integral part of the psychotherapeutic process

The effects of the therapy are cumulative, meaning that from session to session, you will feel better and better, creating a snowball effect.

What additional effects accompany Structural Integration?

Structural Integration has a broad impact on various aspects of human life, even though it primarily focuses on changes in the physical body. The therapeutic process not only unleashes an individual's potential but also enhances self-confidence and allows for the development of emotional expression. It also assists in better coping with stress, leading to easier adaptation to changes and more effortless everyday functioning. It can lead to the release of emotions and the awareness of behavioral patterns. When the body returns to balance, the mind becomes calmer. This method opens doors to discovering new physical and psychological possibilities.

Upon completion of the process, you will experience lasting and progressive positive changes that will impact the rest of your life.
